    Favorite leather bag

    The cyclist Charles Raboison was one of the first participants in the Tour de France in the 1920s. He probably had a few tools under the saddle, provisions in the back pockets of his woollen jersey and one or two spare tires slung around his shoulders, which is a very efficient and reduced solution to the luggage issue for this purpose.

    Inspired by this pioneer of cycling, dothebag, a licensed label of Harold's Lederwaren, has designed a series of bags under the direction of the two industrial designers Sabine Winkler and Olaf Schroeder.

    We chose the "Raboisonbag MacBook 13 inch", a padded bag made from oiled and waxed cowhide, from a range of portrait and landscape formats in various sizes and colors.

    The design is pure, elegant and functional. There are two Tenax closures on the sides, which look inconspicuous at first, but are a technical highlight. They can be closed with one hand, are self-locking and a single hand movement is all that is needed to release the lock - unintentional opening is impossible. The spring steel fasteners are traditionally used on convertible roofs or boat tops, so they are not only elegant, but also storm-proof and suitable for high speeds.

    The bag has a large drawer on the outside back and under the lid on the front. Inside, there are two half-height compartments with press studs, a main compartment and a padded drawer at the back for laptops up to 32 centimeters wide.

    The dimensions of the padded compartment are designed for a 13-inch MacBook or MacBook Pro; alternatively, an iPad or similar tablet computer can be stored well protected. If you cycle to work during the day with a laptop in your bag, you may also appreciate a feature at the end of the working day or at the weekend: smaller purchases such as bottles of beer or soft drinks can be transported easily and, thanks to the padding, hardly put any pressure on your back, even when sitting in a sporty position.

    Harold's Lederwaren produces and distributes products of the two brands Harold's and dothebag. The Raboisonbag is manufactured in a small factory in South America, taking into account sustainable and ecological aspects. In contrast to the widespread use of migrant workers and piecework in South America, the cooperation company has regulated employment contracts and a social security system, which means that the majority of workers have been with the company for over 20 years.

    The production process is called "Hecho a mano", which literally means "handmade", but in meaning goes far beyond this and includes, for example, the free-range husbandry of the cattle and the gentle processing of the leather.
